A history of community service.

A Brea resident since 1981, Marty has built an extensive background in community service. A few examples are –

  • Marty is a member of the Brea Lions Club and a past Committee Chair for the Brea Chamber of Commerce. He is also a past Board Member of the Brea Lion’s Scout Center, which provides a meeting place for Brea’s Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Marty also serves on Brea’s Country Fair Steering Committee.
  • Marty has been instrumental in working with Brea Seniors at the Senior Center. He has arranged for donations to support Senior programs, cash and products totaling tens of thousands of dollars and has helped sponsor the Annual Christmas Party at the Senior Center. This Christmas Party has provided a free lunch to 300 seniors and raffled thousands of dollars in donated gift cards.
  • Marty has been active in youth sports, serving as a Brea Little League coach and a past Board Member for the Brea Olinda High School Football Booster Club and, for many years, regularly volunteered at Saint Angela Merici Parish cooking for the needy and homeless.

Marty holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Whittier College, California. Marty’s professional experience includes a career in law enforcement. He retired from the City of Huntington Park Police Department in 1991 with the rank of Police Captain. Upon his retirement, Marty launched into his current career, joining the family business, where he gained the business management skills to balance with his well-established municipal experience.

Marty and his wife Sonie, have been happily married for 43 years. They have two children; daughter Lisa and her husband John have two children, and their son Jake, who remains a Brea resident.

Though Mayor Simonoff is retired from public safety, he has maintained a strong interest in all aspects of public safety. He is serving his 24th year as a member of the National League of Cities’ Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Steering Committee, having served as its chair in 2006. He is also a 23-year member of the State League of California Cities’ Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy Committee and Steering Committee, having served two prior terms as chair and currently serving as chair for 2020. Mayor Simonoff is a past member of the League of California Cities Board of Directors and served on the board from 2004-2010. He is past president of the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities. Mayor Simonoff also represents the city regionally on the Orange County Council of Governments (OCCOG) and is a Regional Representative on the board for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).
